Aside from our fundraising events, our staff and volunteers offer additional AC3 outreach events for awareness-raising and/or educational purposes:
Alger Career Exploration Fair
Held in April, the AC3 Career Fair is designed to help Alger County 7th, 8th and 9th graders explore both high school, middle college, and college opportunities. The event includes booths representing successful local businesses and U.P. universities and colleges — all hoping to spark interest in the students. Breakout sessions for financial aid, scholarships, and grants were also available to give students tips and tools to prepare for their future. Check the Calendar for upcoming events.
AC3 School Social Worker
We believe it is very important for Alger County to have a school social worker available to our youth. As many parents know, youth experience anxiety, depression, and bullying, among other things and sometimes turn to drugs, alcohol, or harmful behavior to self medicate. Some students even stop going to school. We want Alger County youth to know there is someone available to help — whether it’s just to listen, or to provide guidance working through whatever issue is at hand. Much of our fundraising supports this program.
AC3 Internship Program
Working with MARESA, Neenah, and Munising Memorial Hospital, we have developed an internship program that allows Alger County high school students to intern right here in our own community. It’s a great opportunity for our youth to gain career skills and see that there are jobs right here in their hometown. Conversely, it’s also a wonderful way for local businesses to support local youth and help them toward successful futures!
Snowshoe Valley Spur
AC3 and MSU Extension bring this winter family event to Alger County to encourage healthy habits and increase awareness of drug and alcohol abuse. See our Calendar for upcoming events. View the 2018 Snowshoe Valley Spur Gallery to see the fun!
